It is here finally after 5 years of R&D and a complete year of nagging Enfield to launch it in India, Royal launched the classic range today in Delhi. With this RE has reincarnated style and classiness in the Indian Touring Ground. The bike is mesmerizing to look at, if you don’t believe me take a look and I bet you will be stuck. As you can see we don’t have any Photos from the launch, we will post once we receive them.

Royal Enfield launched both the 500cc and 350cc variants as reported earlier. the Classic 500 is priced at 1.24Lakh and the Classic 350 at Rs. 98,800 both ex-showroom Delhi. Besides the obvious difference between the two, the 500 & 350 differ in the following

The Classic 350 is 5kg lighter, it has a bigger front wheel with 19” (similar to the one in Thunder Bird) compared to the 500’s 18”. The 500 has Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) while the 350 a conventional carburetor. The ignition is electronic in the 500 where as it is Digital Transistor Coil Ignition (TCI) in the 350. The color blue you see on the picture is available only with the 500 and the silencer on the picture is an optional extra in both.

A fellow gear head from Chandigarh couldn’t just wait till the launch of the Bullet Classic which is in two days. He went about enquiring and hear are the fruits of his efforts.

The Classis comes in two variants, a mighty 500cc engine variant which is most likely to cost some where around 1.35Lakhs. This variant comes with Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI). The color green which is prominently being publicized is exclusive of this variant. The other paint jobs include black, silver and brown

The other variant is the one which is likely to cost around 80-90k. This variant has a smaller engine with 350cc and a carburetor. It is available in black, silver and brown.

Look at it, a true Bullet in the making. If Italians have the Lambo we have our own Bull(et). There can’t be a more sweeter surprise for any Bullet enthusiast in India, because when the Classic was first showcased at the 2008 Cologne International Bike Show Enfield said that they won’t be launching it in India.

The Classic comes with a 499cc Electronically Fuel Injected (EFI) engine which produces 27.2bhp good enough to push the Bull to a cruising top speed of 125kmph. The classic has a pulling capacity of 41.3Nm which is just 15 less than that of a Maruti 800 and it can be compared with the 800 on the price range as well, it is expected to be price at 1.3Lakh Rupees.

The Styling of the Classis is very original with a single seat with the chrome spring supports. The letters “RE” engraved on the crankcase is more stylish than the apple logo. The silencer is sleek and shinny. The tank is muscular and contemprory with the rubber thigh pads. Even the tire thread is a thing of beauty. The bike looks right out of a world war movie with its Vintage looks. When the Classic is launched, it is sure to turn over some serious style statements.

The latest accretion comes from Renault-Nissan, who has announced that it is going to shift the production of its small car Micra to its under-construction Plant in oragadam, near Chennai. This plant will start production by May 2010 and will have an annual production capacity of 400,000. Nissan is planning to manufacture 6-7 of its existing model in this plant. Hyundai has already made its Chennai plan it’s Global Hub for manufacturing small cars.

Chennai has a market share of around 30% of India’s Automotive Industry and 35% of its Auto components Industry. The soon to come investments are big as well with Renault-Nissan, which will be investing a sum of Rs. 4,500 on its Chennai plant over a period of 4 years. Ford is planning to invest Rs. 2500 crores on its Chennai plant. Hyundai is setting up a new engine manufacturing plant. BMW is also looking to expand its Chennai plant’s production capability.

Hyundai, Ford, BMW, Mitsubishi, TVS, Ashok Leyland, Caterpillar, Royal Enfield, TI Cycles, TAFE, Dunlop, MRF have their manufacturing plants in and around Chennai. Like Renault-Nissan, Daimler is also getting its manufacturing plant constructed in Chennai.
