Since Mahindra’s 2 wheeler wing hasn’t named these two we are calling it Mahindra’s Performance bike and Scooter concept.

Performance bike:

It is quite astonishing that this bike with a 125cc engine produces 53hp of power. To gain a little perspective the Pulsar 220 which is the fastest bike made in India with an engine capacity of 218cc produces 22hp. The 125cc Honda Stunner just produces 11.3hp. So this concept produces 5 times more power than what is expected out of it. Mahindra claims that this will hit a top speed of 245kmph which makes it the fastest 125cc bike in the world surpassing the Aprilla RS125 which has a maximum speed of 177kmph. These claims are so humongous it makes me think that M2W might be lying but if they aren’t they have defied all laws of physics!

Scooter Concept

This on the other hand is more realistic. With a 2-stroke, ya it’s a 2-stroke 124cc engine with 8hp it is quite conceivable. The Weight of this scooter is 105kgs and the 2-stroke performance shows in the 120kmph top speed. I am sure it can achieve the claimed top speed but would it keep me safe from plummeting into my own death at 120kmph?

Earlier we brought you the pictures of Mahindra 2-wheeler’s two new scooters, Duro and Rodeo. Mahindra launched both the models yesterday (10th Sep). Both the scooters are gearless and will have CVT (continuous variable transmission) like the once in Activas and Scooties against whom they will be positioned in the market.

Both the scooters come with the same engine, a 125cc 8bhp engine which is developed under Mahindra’s tie up with SYM, a Taiwan based engines engineering company, with which Kinetic already had tie-ups.

The Duro is priced at Rs. 38,299 and the Rodeo is priced at Rs. 41,299 both ex-showroom Pune. For the slightly higher price the Rodeo gets wider body and bigger seat.

Mahindra 2-wheelers is soon going to enter the gearless scooter segment with two more scooters. Earlier we brought you the news snippet about its first gearless scooter Flyte, Mahindra is looking to add two scooters to its entourage.

The scooters are named Rodeo and Duro. The pictures we have so far suggest that both the scooters lack new design. While the better looking Duro borrows most of its designs from Kinetic’s old model Nova, Rodeo is just too dull to even look at. Once we have enough pictures we might change our minds. But for now Honda and TVS have nothing to worry about.

FLYTE

Mahindra 2-wheelers (M&M’s two wheeler branch formed by acquiring Kinetic Motors) launched its first gearless scooter Flite. The scooter will go head to head with the likes of Scooty and Activa. The Flite does include some interesting features like the Anti-theft shuttle lock and the very practical front petrol filling provision.

M&M acquired the once market leader in gearless scooters last year for Rs. 110 crores. M&M phased out the Kinetic brand and it will be using kinetic’s infrastructure only in terms of sales and distribution.

Anand Mahindra had said, “Kinetic Motors is a strategic fit with our overall two-wheeler strategy. The acquisition gives us an opportunity to emerge as a full-range player with a presence in almost every segment of the automobile industry.”

On a similar note Yamaha is also planning to enter into the gearless scooter segment. But unlike the Flite this one is going to sporty like all other Yamahas. Looks like Activa has got company.
