Okay, maybe the title is bit of an overkill, calling marquees such as Bugatti, Lamborghini, McLaren even new comers like Koeinigsegg and Pagani as 'pretenders' is quite preposterous. But when viewed against the sheer weight of Ferrari's legacy, all the others do seem like wannabes. In the last few years however, things have been slightly differnt, as good as Ferrari has been with its cars, Bugatti makes the fastest car in the world, Lamborghini and Pagani fight it out for the maddest car-maker title and even Lexus has jumped into the fray with its super exciting LFA. Ferraris might still be the best cars but they are not the ones adorning kid's bedroom walls. The oomph factor somehow went missing with them for over a decade.

Now Ferrari is fighting back, first came the frankly pronographic 458 Italia and rumours are abound the Ferrari are close to completing the Enzo succesor, the F70 (One might notice that they went straight from F50 to F70, but the Enzo was originally called the F60 and the 2009 F1 car is also called the F60). The F70 promises to take Ferrari into unchartered territories, with lightness being the main focus instead of massive power. The power figure is expected to be the same as the Enzo, but before you start groaning the weight is set to come down by as much as 368 Kg. The power will be delivered by a twin-turbo V8 instead of the traditional V12. This means, the F70 will be a throwback to the F40 (which incidentally TopGear thinks is the last great car made by Ferrari and we tend to agree!). Ferrari is hell bent on reducing the greatest drawback of turbine forced induction, turbo lag, a Ferrari is not a Ferrari without the instant response and the engineers it seems are confident of wiping it out all together using elctrical motors to aid the turos. The F70 will also be a landmark vehicle for Ferrari as it marks its first step toward reducing the CO2 levels and increasing (ever so slightly) the MPG numbers.

Mclaren might talk up its supposed 'Ferrari-Killer', Lexus may produce a car straight out of a video game and Bugatti might make a car with a zillion horse power but the allure of a Ferrari can never be ignored and the way things are shaping up, Ferrari will remain at the top of the pedestal for a long time to come. Check the gallery for some F70 renderings and let us know what you like the best.

The first of its kind Ferrari theme park is getting geared up in Abu Dhabi for its opening in 2010. The roof of the theme park is claimed to be inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body but it could easily be mistaken for an Alien mother ship. It is painted in scarlet Ferrari red with the biggest Ferrari logo ever created with a dimension of 65m x 48.5m.

It is located at about 10minutes from the Abu Dhabi International Airport. With an enclosed area of 100,000 m2 it is the world’s largest indoor park. The theme park corners around the Abu Dhabi F1 GP race track, which can be over viewed from the park’s ultra exclusive gallery.

The attractions include 20 start-of-the-art rides. A roller coaster which plunges down from a height of 62 meters at a Ferrarish speed of 200mph, a G-force ride, driving school for junior drivers with expert training and racing simulators used by Ferrari’s F1 drivers plus hotels , gift shops and Pasta, it will make the Tifosi go more bonkers than a Ferrari F1 win!

click here for the BMW episode

National Geographic TV channel is broadcasting this show named “Ultimate Factories” which is a documentary that covers the inside working of various factories. But what interests us about this show is the automobile factories it features. The program has seen factories like Ferrari, BMW, Harley-Davidson, Corvette, Lamborghini and Caterpillar.

We here at Indian auto talk will provide live streaming links of the complete episodes which you might find interesting. This time around it’s two episodes one covers the Ferrari factory with the making of the 599 GTB Fiorano and the second one covers the BMW factory with the making of the Z4.

with this we are starting a new category on Indian Auto Talk called "Factory tour" under which we will be bring you the coverage of various car and bike factory videos. next time it will be the Lamborghine factory, stay tunned to watch how they fix the scissor door of the Lamborghini Murciélago.

Ferrari as we all know is an Iconic brand as far as any Industry is concerned. The Company dates back to the 1950s when Enzo Ferrari started making race cars which raced in Formula1. Enzo decided to make road cars just to fund his F1 team. Now that decision as turned
out into the most recognized car icon in the world.

Not in the distant past, the only Ferrari I knew were the F40, 50, Enzo, f430 and the Testarossa. I for one always wanted to gain knowledge of old Ferraris. Questions like what was the F430’s predecessor, who replaced the Testarossa kept popping into my head. So I decided to make up a list of the Ferrari’s road going cars right from the 250gts till the latest 458 Italia.

Currently Ferrari is classified into 3-series:
•	The Ferrari F family which started with the 250GTO and reached till the F60 Enzo
•	The Ferrari sports couple Family which started with the Dino and with its latest offering 458 Italia
•	The Ferrari GT family which started with the 250 GT and has come till the 599 GTB Fiorano

I have attached a presentation with this post which consists of pictures of Ferrari cars in the sequence of their launch. After you go through this, you will be able to identify most of the Prancing horses.

It’s officially official now that Fisichella will be racing for Ferrari for the rest of the season starting with the Italian GP. Team Force India released Fisichella from it's contract and now he is on his way to Maranello. It is will be quite interesting to watch what Fisichella will do with a Ferrari in his hand.

The saga was ended a few hours back, when Mallya announced “Giancarlo and his management team approached me yesterday with the proposal from Ferrari, for any Italian driver, a Ferrari race seat is a long-held dream and for Giancarlo it was no exception. No one should stand in the way of this”

Mr. Mallya added that "Furthermore the agreement will secure Giancarlo's long-term future with Ferrari and it would be incorrect to jeopardize this, particularly when Giancarlo has made such a vital contribution to Force India.”

When Fisichella spoke about the transfer he said “I am very grateful to Vijay Mallya for allowing me this opportunity to drive for the Scuderia Ferrari,” he also added “It is true that it has always been an ambition to do this, and for Vijay [Mallya] to have allowed it to become a reality is very generous. I hope in my turn I have helped Force India grow up and be on the right path to achieve their own ambitions. They are now a very competitive team and I wish them all the very best.”

Ferrari will confirm Fisichella’s signing in an hour.

Mr. Mallya added that “Furthermore the agreement will secure Giancarlo’s long-term future with Ferrari and it would be incorrect to jeopardize this, particularly when Giancarlo has made such a vital contribution to Force India.”

Ferrari might have resigned itself to the 2010 season, abandoning all development of the 2009 car. But as the season careens towards Monza, Ferrari’s home race, the focus again shifts to the men in scarlet. The Kimi victory at spa further brought into focus the pathetic state of the other guy driving the red car...er...ah! Luca Badoer. His last place finish has almost ensured that his F1 days are over and it’s back to the Maranello test track for him. Now, speculation is rife that Ferrari could be moving in on the man of the moment, Giancardo Fisichella to replace the hapless Badoer. In fact, even before Fisichella grabbed the spotlight at spa, Ferrari were looking towards the Italian. Now, the speculation has gathered further momentum.

But as the season careens towards Monza, Ferrari’s home race, the focus again shifts to the men in scarlet. His last place finish has almost ensured that his F1 days are over and it’s back to the Maranello test track for him. Now, speculation is rife that Ferrari could be moving in on the man of the moment, Giancardo Fisichella to replace the hapless Badoer.
Ferrari’s three time world champion Niki Lauda urged Ferrari to replace Luca with Fisi for the forth coming Italian GP. Mr. Lauda said to a Swiss magazine that “Ferrari must absolutely get Fisichella into the cockpit at Monza,”

If at all the move is made Fisichella will get a 5 race deal and a testing contract for next year. Since his contract with Force India ends this season, one might expect Fisichella to make the move. Fisichella told a news conference “It’s always a dream for all the drivers in Formula One and even the other categories to drive for Ferrari, especially for an Italian driver like me. And so far it is still a dream,” after clinching pole in Belgium.

Adding fuel to the flame Force India commercial director Ian Phillips told British radio on Monday morning “Nobody’s asked us yet but I think it’s pretty likely that somebody will make a phone call to (team boss) Vijay Mallya over the next 24 hours or so asking if we would release him to Ferrari,”

Force India is in debt to Ferrari from the engine deal it had last year and this transfer might help cover the debt or it might involve a minimal transfer fee.”I don’t think they (Force India) have really got any options (except to release Fisichella),” Phillips added.

However, the picture is not all rosy for Fisichella. Threatening clouds in the form of the returning Filippe Massa are on his horizon. The latest medical reports are in and the results are better than expected. This might hasten his return much sooner than the expected Brazilian Grand Prix. Any news item on Force India is not complete without some comments from the flamboyant Mr. Mallya. He has denied any imminent Fisichella-to-Ferrari move, and slammed Phillips for suggesting such speculations.

“Ian Philips’ comments do not reflect the views of the (team) since he is not the designated spokesperson (…) nor is he authorized to speak to the media. His comments should therefore be ignored,” Mallya said in his statement.

The Fisi-Ferrari saga rolls on…how do you think all this will end?
Let us know in the comments section.

And we agree with Enzo. Just looking at the 458 Italia we know it’s going to b a great car. It looks like it has the aerodynamic properties of a bullet. It looks so hot that it makes a naga chili look like sugar donut. It even has the elegant beauty of a 8C And from what Ferrari are saying it’s going to be a giant leap in technology.

It has a 4.5 liter V8 engine develops 570hp and 540 nm of torque. It is quite economical with a mileage of 7.1 kmpl, this is something totally new with Ferrari. So is this going to be a Dino for the crisis age? Not even a chance. The 458 will hit 100kmph in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 202mph or 325kmph.

So is this going to be a Dino for the crisis age? Not even a chance. The 458 will hit 100kmph in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 202mph or 325kmph.

The new Italia will rev till 9000 rpm. The weight is kept low to 3000 pounds with aluminum structure like its predecessor, the F430. It gets its seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, just like the one in the California. It is still uncertain if the 458 will get KERS. But no worries it will all be clear this September when the 458 will be displayed for public at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

For now this is what Ferrari has to say about its new offering:

ITALIA – Ferrari’s innovative new V8

The 458 Italia is the latest incarnation of the mid-rear engined berlinetta and will be unveiled at the next Frankfurt Motor Show

Maranello, July 28th 2009 – While it’s true that every Ferrari is innovative by definition, it’s equally true that in the course of the Prancing Horse’s history, certain cars have marked a genuine departure from the current range. This is very much the case with the Ferrari 458 Italia, which is a massive leap forward from the company’s previous mid-rear engined sports cars.

The new model is a synthesis of style, creative flair, passion and cutting-edge technology, characteristics for which Italy as a nation is well-known. For this reason Ferrari chose to add the name of its homeland to the traditional figure representing the displacement and number of cylinders.

The Ferrari 458 Italia is a completely new car from every point of view: engine, design, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation and ergonomics, just to name a few.

A two-seater berlinetta, the Ferrari 458 Italia, as is now traditional for all Ferrari’s road-going cars, benefits hugely from the company’s Formula 1 experience. This is particularly evident in the speed and precision with which the car responds to driver inputs and in the attention focused on reducing internal friction in the engine for lower fuel consumption than the F430, despite the fact that both overall displacement and power have increased. However, Ferrari’s track experience makes its presence felt in the 458 Italia not only in terms of pure technological transfer but also on a more emotional level, because of the strong emphasis on creating an almost symbiotic relationship between driver and car. The 458 Italia features an innovative driving environment with a new kind of steering wheel and dashboard that is the direct result of racing practice. Once again input from Michael Schumacher – who was involved from the very start of the 458 Italia project – played an invaluable part.

The Ferrari 458 Italia’s Pininfarina design provides further evidence of the complete departure from the past that this new car hails. The Ferrari 458 Italia has a compact, aerodynamic shape, underscoring the concepts of simplicity, efficiency and lightness that inspired the project. As with every Ferrari, the car’s styling has been very heavily influenced by the requirements for aerodynamic efficiency, as can be seen from the downforce of 140 kg at 200km/h generated by the new model. The front features a single opening for the front grille and side air intakes, with aerodynamic sections and profiles designed to direct air to the coolant radiators and the new flat underbody. The nose also sports small aeroelastic winglets which generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and cut drag.

The new 4499 cc V8 is the first Ferrari direct injection engine to be mid-rear mounted. It has a very low piston compression height typical of racing engines which contributed to achieving its compression ratio of 12.5:1. Equipped with the traditional flat-plane crankshaft, the engine delivers 570 CV at 9000 rpm and, with an outstanding power output of 127 CV/litre, sets a new benchmark not only for the whole Ferrari range and the history of company, but also for the entire market segment. Maximum torque is 540 Nm at 6000 rpm, over 80 per cent of which is available from 3250 rpm. Specific torque is a record 120 Nm/litre. However, what is truly extraordinary is the amount of torque available while still maintaining high levels of power at low revs.

The car’s soundtrack is also typical Ferrari, with an exciting, powerful growl emerging from the engine before it channels through to the exhaust’s three rear tailpipes.

The 458 Italia is equipped with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission which increases performance whilst providing very smooth shifts even at full throttle. The engineers have developed specific, sportier gear ratios to match the power and torque curves of the new V8, guaranteeing high torque even at lower engine speeds and allowing the car to reach its maximum speed in top gear.

This new Ferrari is also a major leap forward when it comes to cutting emissions. Despite the fact that the new engine is significantly more powerful than the V8s that preceded it, the Ferrari 458 Italia produces just 320 g/km of CO2 and fuel consumption is 13.7 l/100 km (combined cycle), the best in the entire segment.

The engineers also focused on weight reduction during the design phase for similar reasons. Consequently, the Ferrari 458 Italia has a dry weight of 1380 kg with a power-to-weight ratio of 2.42 kg/CV. Weight distribution is also optimal with 58 per cent over the rear axle. The result of the engineers’ endeavours can be summed up in to two simple statistics which together perfectly encapsulate the Ferrari 458 Italia’s exceptional performance: 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 3.4 seconds and a maximum speed in excess of 325 km/h.

For the new chassis, once more in aluminium, Maranello’s engineers incorporated various types of advanced alloys along with aerospace industry-derived manufacturing and bonding techniques.

With regard to vehicle dynamics, the Ferrari 458 Italia’s suspension features twin wishbones at the front and a multi-link set-up at the rear tuned for maximum roadholding and superlative handling. Along with a more direct steering ratio, the 458 Italia thus offers extremely rapid turn-in and body control whilst maintaining superior ride comfort.

The integration of the E-Diff and F1-Trac (now controlled by the same ECU) and their respective mappings is even greater, resulting in a 32 per cent increase in longitudinal acceleration out of corners compared to previous models. The evolution of the control logic, with even faster and more accurate calculation of levels of grip, ensures even greater roadholding, better handling and ease of control on the limit.

The same ECU also governs the high-performance ABS, providing even more precise control over the logic threshold and greater efficiency. The brakes also feature a prefill function whereby the pistons in the callipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied. This combined with the ABS has cut the 100-0 km/h braking distance to a mere 32.5 metres.

The Ferrari 458 Italia’s interior is another area of the car that exalts its sporty personality. The driver is welcomed by a new layout and a revolutionary ergonomic interface where the main controls are all clustered on the steering wheel.

With the Ferrari 458 Italia, Maranello has brought a highly distinctive new car to its 8-cylinder range. The company now offers two models that share a common, race-derived DNA, both exceptionally sporty and fun to drive in true Ferrari tradition, but aimed at two very different kinds of client. While the Ferrari California was created for owners requiring a more versatile sports car with a practical edge, the 458 Italia is designed for owners for whom the priority is uncompromising on-road performance with occasional track day capability, but who still demand a car that is useable in day-to-day driving like all Ferrari’s recent models.
