The Japanese car maker currently has 90 showrooms in the country and is looking to increase the number to a 150 by 2010. One of the major reason for this expansion is the unexpected over flow of booking for its new SUV Fortuner.
Even before its launch Toyota recorded 2500 booking and it kept increasing after the launch as well. Fortuner is shipped from Thailand as CKD (completely knocked down) parts and assembled at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, which has a monthly capacity of 550 Fortuners. Do the math and you will know that Toyota has nothing else to do other than stop the booking of the Fortuner for the next 6 months.
In 2000 Toyota came into India and started off with just 27 outlets. Recently it inaugurated its 90th outlet in New Delhi. The company’s portfolio in India keeps getting better and better thanks to its exceptional make quality.
