Tata adds one more variant to the Indica shed to boost up its sales. But this time it is not just going to be another Indica, this one is B.I.G. Tata calls it Ignis and it gets the 1.4 Litre Saffire engine from Fiat’s Grande Punto and it puts out 95 Ps of power that is 5 more than Punto and 115 Nm of torque. Though it gets a bigger engine, it burns fuel economically. Tata claim a mileage of 16.7 kmpl. This engine in a Indica makes it a rather powerful tool.
We said this one is B.I.G, and if you thought its just because it gets a bigger engine, you will be so wrong. The new Ignis is cramped up with all the gadgets you can expect. Tata has poured in everything at its disposal into the Ignis.
The biggest system of all is the ABS. it also get a couple of airbags, one mounted on the steering wheel and the other for shot gun rider. The new steering wheel mounted with various controls. It gets a stereo system with inbuilt Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. The mirrors are now electronically adjustable. It also gets keyless entry. Now that’s everything that is to ask for.
Since it get a 1.4L engine, the Ignis doesn’t come under the Government’s excise cut parameters for cars with petrol engines smaller than 1.2 litres, this will reflect on the price a little. The price is expected to be around Rs. 4.5 -5.5 lakhs. But since it’s a Tata it will be worth every paise. Indica has been one of Tata’s most selling cars, lets c if the Ignis can cut the mustard!!
Musings: Indica Vista
The best looking of all the indicas, the side profile of the vista has a bit of fiat’s chinquichento‘s DNA. It looks the best in pearl white with black painted roof, which is the 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Indica Vista, The Vista is not just a facelift of the old Indica but it is built on a completely new platform. It is bigger than the old Indica. It is 3,795 mm (149.4 in) long with a wheelbase of 2,470 mm (97.2 in) which accounts for its interior space.
The Indica Vista has two new engines, a 1.3 L Quadra Jet common rail direct injection diesel and a 1.2 L Safire MPFI VVT petrol engine. It is also available with the 1.4L TDi (Turbo Diesel). That’s too much to choose from.
The interior of the vista shows a bit of wannabe coolness. The centrally mounted console looks good but the vast empty dash space behind the steering it has left looks like aishwarya rai bald. The interior space is a bit more than its forerunner. With its tiltable steering wheel, height adjustable driver’s seat, front seat lumbar adjustments and foldable rear seats, it has all the basics covered.
Due to the fact that older indica’s had airbags, I just couldn’t figure out why Tata didn’t give the vista airbags. Absence of airbags makes you ask the question what other safety equipment Tata ditched in the attempt to reduce price.
The price varies from 3.5lakhs for the petrol variant to 5lakhs for the Quadra-jet engined.

Ignis could have airbags, and a nice observation about the price increase. You know these Tata guys have quality control issues which has robbed them of potential customers
